Coaches

John Cohen

I offer coaching services for families who are in treatment, struggling setting/keeping boundaries, or are coming home from treatment. The goal is to keep your family moving forward, to keep the Momentum . I offer independent phone/video call packages.

  • Phone/Video call packages
  • Parent coaching
  • Adolescent/Young Adult mentoring
  • Supporting clients transitioning from national and international programming

I am a big believer in the need to hold strong boundaries in the family. I have seen the most beneficial results when strong boundaries are held. It is also important not to fall back into old patterns which can easily happen when coming back from treatment.

What sets me apart from other coaches is my 30 years of experience as a therapist and the fact that I have worked at several treatment programs and understand the dynamics involved in sustaining that progress. I am very caring but also direct in my communication. Change can be difficult and sustaining change can even be more difficult. I can help guide you through the difficulties.

Meet Molly

Molly grew up in Idaho and enjoys the outdoor recreation and wide open spaces her home state has to offer. After undergrad, she discovered wilderness therapy where she worked for five years directly with students. In her role as field staff, Molly would spend uninterrupted weeks at a time with students while teaching valuable problem-solving and communication skills, self-reliance and personal responsibility. During this time, Molly discovered her passion of working with youth and supporting clients to continue the momentum of their personal growth. She has worked in a variety of settings including a detention center, an alternative school and as a life skills coach. After earning her Masters of Social work, Molly continued her work with youth as a therapist at a Wilderness program.

Approach
Having worked with teens in both intensive “inpatient” programs and in community settings, she understands the importance of continued support and nurturing of skills gained. Transition back to “normal life” is extremely challenging and it is essential to have support and guidance during this time. Molly works with the client and family to create a home contract, identify goals and provide focused support during this time. She teaches accountability while providing care and will teach expert strategies for overcoming obstacles. Being a teen is hard. Giving them the extra support they need during this time can be a lifeline to future success and wellbeing.

Molly offers video sessions and phone calls with the client and family. She is also available for weekend intensives, which includes additional individual planning and family support. Molly coaches on a variety of topics including:

  • Stress management
  • Communication
  • Family conflict
  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Organization/time management
  • Transition from another program

Meet Lauren

Lauren is from Connecticut where she currently resides with her two young sons. As a multi-sport young athlete, Lauren is no stranger to a team or coaching atmosphere. In her undergrad Lauren captained her Division I Tennis team while receiving her Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology. Upon graduation, Lauren moved to the Bay Area where she worked with student athletes at Stanford University. Moving back East Lauren accepted a job to coach a Division III Collegiate Men’s and Women’s Tennis team just north of Boston, Mass. While coaching Lauren received her Masters in Education. Lauren quickly found her calling in coaching and connecting with her team to help them both on and off the court. Lauren truly enjoyed Division III collegiate athletics because it focused less on skill/talent and more on the student athlete’s growth as a young adult. “I believe an individual sport like tennis can teach us a lot about ourselves. We can also draw many parallels to fundamental life lessons.”

Upon leaving collegiate coaching Lauren transitioned into the Boston Public School system through a non-profit called Tenacity where she specialized in tennis, family engagement and literacy as part of an extended learning program. Lauren managed and oversaw a staff of Americorps members to train them in the curriculum she had created to inspire and engage inner city middle school students in Boston. Although initially brought to the non-profit through tennis and fitness, Lauren ended up being more drawn to the family engagement aspect of the job.

Lauren left Boston to move out west and became the Director of Tennis at the Snowmass Club. While in Aspen she also coached the Aspen Girls High School Tennis team. She has worked with countless children, teens, young adults and families across the country.

Lauren’s main passion is connection and relating to people is her specialty. Her approach comes from genuine acceptance and understanding. The main goal in every interaction is to tap into people’s inherent positive traits. She has a unique gift in bringing out the best in people through motivating and inspiring them to achieve their full potential.
